Alton Daley is a junior on the UMass Boston Men’s Ice Hockey team. Daley has received numerous awards recognizing his outstanding commitment to community service and academics. Academically, Daley received the 2014-2015 Einstein award for highest student-athlete grade point average (3.98 gpa), 2014-15 ECAC East All-Academic Member, and the 2014-15 Dean’s list. Within the community, Daley participates in the South Boston Leadership Initiative working with young athletes on measures to avoid injury and staying healthy, and volunteering for the University of Massachusetts Boston Golden Gala. Most notably, Daley is the founder and president of the UMass Boston Physical Therapy Society (2015). Daley founded the society in an effort to connect exercise and health sciences students interested in pursuing careers in physical therapy. Students are offered volunteer opportunities, academic planning, graduate school tutors, and peer mentorship. Currently, the society has 27 members.

Daley has been a participant on the Beacon’s Varsity Men’s Ice Hockey team since his freshman year. He is the first to be named a junior captain in Coach Belisle’s career. Daley is currently carrying a 3.9 grade point average and majoring in Exercise Health Sciences.

Syndi Epps is a senior on the Hofstra University (HU) Women’s Basketball team. Epps is a three-year member of HU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and is the current SAAC president. Within this capacity, Epps serves as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) SAAC representative to the NCAA. Throughout her collegiate career, Epps has participated in more than ten community service initiatives. Every year she visits with students at the Viscardi Center; a school dedicated to serving the needs of children and young adults with physical needs. At the Vicardi Center, Epps talks to students about hard work, perseverance, and leads out in a basketball clinic. Epps actively reads at several local elementary schools and volunteers at Interfaith Nutrition Network. Epps regularly helps raise money and sponsors meals at The INN. As a leader, Epps has partnered with One Love Foundation, where she has participated in their Escalation Workshops on domestic violence and encouraged her teammates to raise awareness for this campaign by running one million yards over two days. Epps also volunteers at the Annual CAA Blood Drive Challenge and the Annual HEADstrong women’s lacrosse tournament, which supports families battling blood cancer.

Epps is carrying a 3.0 grade point average and majoring in Business Marketing.
