Blake Simons is a senior rugby player for the University of California, Berkeley Golden Bears.  Simons is a council member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), working to prevent suicide through research, education, and advocacy.  Simons and AFSP have partnered with “You Mean More,” a UC Berkeley organization, “to increase awareness on campus about the No. 2 cause of death among college students.”  This suicide prevention initiative will screen and assess UC Berkeley students and provide the students with a suicide risk report.  Simons also volunteers as a tutor at a local Boys and Girls Club and mentors at Acorn Elementary School in East Oakland through the Sage Mentorship Program. Coco Woeltz, is a junior soccer player for the Boston College Eagles.  Woeltz spent part of her summer in Humjibre, Ghana with the Ghana Health & Education Initiative’s (GHEI).  Woeltz was part of a health team that performed over 300 basic eye exams for students seven to 13 years old from nearby villages.  Woeltz was trained to identify signs of strabismus, glaucoma, and cataracts.  25 students received advanced treatment for seriously impaired vision from an ophthalmologist at a local hospital in Bibani, Ghana.  In addition, Woeltz was part of a fundraising team that provided over 200 pairs of glasses for Ghanaian students.  More details about Woeltz’s experience can be found at:
