About Us

History / Innovation
Since its inception in 1985, The Institute for Sport and Social Justice has been an innovator in using sport as a platform for social change, launching groundbreaking initiatives like the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program (1987-2018) and Huddle Up, which integrated MVP and the TEAMWORK Leadership Institute (TLI). The Huddle has earned notable recognition, including the Peter F. Drucker Foundation Award and the distinction of MVP being named the “most innovative gender violence prevention program” by the Clinton Administration.

Mission
Harnessing the power of sport, we educate and empower leaders to create a safer, more equitable, and inclusive world.

Vision
We envision a future where individuals in sport recognize and act on their personal responsibility in fostering safe and inclusive communities

Katelyn Ohashi, Civic Leader Award

I am honored to be a Giant Steps Honoree as a civic leader. Sharing my stories of body shaming, and educating others about the damage it can do to young women in sports is detrimental. I hope I can help young people understand the importance of self-worth and to find their own voices within.
