National Student Athlete Day

What is National STUDENT-Athlete Day?

Annually recognized on April 6 and created in 1987, National STUDENT-Athlete Day was designed to honor the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics, while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities. Since its inception, National STUDENT-Athlete Day has honored more than 4.4 million outstanding student-athletes.

National STUDENT-Athlete Day was created by the Institute for Sport and Social Justice, and is now celebrated in partnership with the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

Katelyn Ohashi, Civic Leader Award

I am honored to be a Giant Steps Honoree as a civic leader. Sharing my stories of body shaming, and educating others about the damage it can do to young women in sports is detrimental. I hope I can help young people understand the importance of self-worth and to find their own voices within.
