The Fight Against Human Trafficking has to be Everywhere

There have been many horrific news stories that have been reported in the international press regarding human trafficking in the past few weeks.
It is very important that we, as Americans, understand that human trafficking is also a huge problem in the United States.  While many victims in the US are poor or persecuted people lured into the country with the promise of a new life but who often end up as slaves, many victims are US born.
Just in the past week human trafficking instances were reported in Tennessee, Ohio, South Dakota, Montana, California, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Texas, North Dakota, Mississippi, and New Jersey.  That is the bad news.
There is good news also.  In May alone, 91 people were charged in the United States with human trafficking offenses; 28 children under the age of 18 and 12 over 18 were rescued.   There were seven new laws passed to fight trafficking and there were 67 community initiatives to raise awareness about trafficking.
It is up to all of us to eradicate this monster.
In the next few weeks, look for the annual report on our Shut Out Trafficking Program, a partnership between the NCAS and the US Fund for UNICEF.
